Deep Cleaning & Polishing

Mendabath UK offers a deep clean and polish for baths and shower trays in homes across the UK whose surface is dulled by limescale rather than worn through.

A fresher, shinier bath without a full resurfacing

Many baths become coated in dirt and limescale over a number of years, even with regular cleaning. This can cause light roughness and discolouration. If this is the case and the surface is still in good condition we offer a full clean and mechanical polish to restore the smoothness and shine.

This type of wear is very different to that where the acrylic or enamel surface has actually degraded and become rough and porous, and is thus ready to be resurfaced. Dull baths such as those described can sometimes benefit from a deep cleaning and polish to remove the build-up of dirt and limescale. The process will get rid of stubborn stains and water marks, leaving the bath in a fresher, shinier condition.

The suitability of this service will be determined at survey, as the bath needs to be otherwise in good condition and not showing signs of enamel deterioration to be suitable for deep clean and polishing.

What to plan before you book

  1. Check the surface

Run a hand over the bath. If it feels rough or porous, rather than just dull, it may need resurfacing instead.

  2. Photograph the bath

Photos in good light show us the staining and the condition of the surface.

  3. Stop using harsh cleaners

Many cleaning agents available actually have a detrimental effect on the enamel coat, so call us for advice if you are not sure.

  4. Clear the bath and room

Remove everything from the bath and surrounding surfaces before we arrive.

  5. Hard water areas

If you live in a high limescale area, expect build-up to return and plan to dry the bath after use.

Good to know

  1. Suitability is decided at survey

Only a bath that is otherwise in good condition suits a deep clean and polish.

  2. It is not a resurfacing

A deep clean restores shine to a sound surface, but it will not repair worn enamel.

  3. Limescale prevention

In high limescale areas or on baths with low spots, dry the bath after use to prevent damage caused by standing water.

  4. Cleaners

Use a soft non-abrasive sponge with warm soapy water, with a small amount of white vinegar in high limescale areas.

  5. Staining

Minor staining can sometimes be removed with a car polish and a microfibre cloth.

Questions customers ask

What is the difference between deep cleaning and resurfacing?

Deep cleaning removes limescale and grime from a sound surface. Resurfacing is for surfaces that have degraded and become rough and porous.

Will it remove limescale?

Yes, a full clean and mechanical polish removes limescale and grime build-up from baths in otherwise good condition.

How do I know if my bath is suitable?

The suitability is determined at survey. The bath needs to be in good condition with no signs of enamel deterioration.

Can I use shop-bought cleaners?

Many cleaning agents actually have a detrimental effect on the enamel coat, so please call us for specialist advice.

Does it stop limescale coming back?

No. Dry the bath after use in high limescale areas to prevent damage from standing water.

What if my bath is too worn?

Then we will recommend a resurfacing instead.
